A helping hand through the grieving process

Our care for you and your family continues beyond the funeral. You’ll have access to our Bereavement Care Programme and Christmas Remembrance Services and you can contact us at any time to answer your questions.

There are many ways to work through the grief journey and it’s different for every person. The most important way is to express your grief in whatever way works for you. If you’re struggling, we encourage you to take advantage of our Bereavement Care Programme.

Our Bereavement Care Programme

Our complimentary Bereavement Care Programme is offered through our partner, the Grief Centre, to provide bereavement support to you and your family. In the weeks following the funeral, you’ll receive a letter telling you about the programme and how you and your family can receive support, including:

  • The listening ear of an experienced support worker for up to one year.
  • A free counselling session in one of seven locations across Auckland, or via phone or Skype.
  • Support groups that connect you with others with similar experiences.
  • Information and resources on loss and grief for all ages.
  • A comprehensive library located at our office for your use.

If you’d like to talk to someone sooner, or have any questions about any of these services, please contact the Grief Centre on 09 418 1457, or email [email protected]

Children and grief

Children grieve the loss of a loved one too. This may be expressed in different ways and it’s important to recognise and acknowledge their grief. Encourage children to be involved in the funeral service if they’d like to. This will help them share and express their grief and make them feel included in an important family event.

Children can also receive expert support through our Bereavement Care Programme, or you can receive advice on their behalf if you’d like to support them through this difficult time.
